DEQ State Energy Office accepting proposals for energy efficient building upgrades
The NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) State Energy Office (SEO) is requesting proposals statewide until Nov. 24, 2026, for energy efficient building upgrade projects.
Approximately $1.4 million is available for projects through SEO’s State Energy Program award from the U.S. Department of Energy. Selected projects may be funded between $50,000 and $200,000.
Potential projects include:
- Comprehensive upgrades, which involve efficiency measures in two or more building systems, such as lighting, building envelope or HVAC, and one building-wide energy savings goal
- Electrification enabling grid-interactivity, such as demand response
- Onsite renewables, such as solar, hydropower or geothermal, and battery storage for resilience benefits
- Retro-commissioning, which optimizes building performance and energy savings by improving existing building systems through corrective adjustments, rather than replacing entire systems
- A blend of projects with both high and low return on investment to optimize the bundle of measures balancing deferred maintenance needs, energy savings and financial goals
Eligible entities include NC towns, cities, counties, state agencies, universities, community colleges, K-12 schools, nonprofits, businesses and industrial entities.
