Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show Highlights Innovation and Growth in Saskatchewan Energy Sector

CANADA, September 16 - Released on September 16, 2026

The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to be once again participating in the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show, one of Canada's premier energy conferences and an important showcase of the significant role heavy oil development plays in strengthening Saskatchewan's economy.

The event, held every two years, runs September 16 and 17. It will bring together industry leaders from across Western Canada to exchange knowledge, explore emerging technologies, and showcase the innovations shaping the future of energy development. The Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show highlights the vital contribution of heavy oil development to Saskatchewan's economy and its continued role in driving growth and investment.

"Saskatchewan's oil and gas sector creates thousands of jobs, generates significant investment and reliably provides the energy the world needs," Energy and Resources Minister Chris Beaudry said. "The Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show is an opportunity to celebrate the people and companies whose innovation and hard work have made northwest Saskatchewan a leader in heavy oil production. Our government remains committed to supporting the growth of oil production through responsible resource development in Saskatchewan's energy sector."

Continued technological advancements, improved recovery methods and ongoing industry investment are helping producers enhance efficiency and maximize the value of Saskatchewan's world-class heavy oil resources in northwest Saskatchewan. With several new projects in the area expected to come into full production over the next several years, the outlook for heavy oil development in the province is promising.

The oil and gas sector continues to be a pillar of the Saskatchewan economy. More than 25,000 people are employed in the sector, and last year, the value of oil and gas production reached $11.5 billion. The sector generates significant royalty revenue that supports essential public services and infrastructure for the people of Saskatchewan.

With abundant resources, a skilled workforce, a stable regulatory environment and competitive royalty programs, Saskatchewan is one of the most attractive jurisdictions in North America for energy sector investment.

The Government of Saskatchewan welcomes participants to this year's event and recognizes the vital contributions of the oil and gas sector to communities across the province.
