Video, Audio, Photos & Rush Transcript: Governor Hochul Announces Energy Rebate Checks Going to 8.2 Million New York Households Starting Next Week

Governor Hochul: “Relief is on the way. Starting from one week today, September 21st, we're mailing out energy rebate checks. Energy rebate checks to 8.2 million households…So what we've done working with the Legislature is invest one billion dollars, a billion dollars going out to New Yorkers all across the state, so we can put that money back in your pockets. Checks up to $200 to help families keep pace with the rising cost of energy.”

Hochul: “But we're going after the cost of energy itself as well. That's why I enacted something called the Ratepayer Protection Plan, which prioritizes the needs of New Yorkers over the big energy companies. If a utility wants to raise your rates, it has to show us a budget-conscious option that keeps below the cost of inflation.”
