Attorney General Ford Invites Ratepayers to Participate in Online Consumer Survey on NV Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan

Carson City, NV – Today, Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announced that his office’s Bureau of Consumer Protection (“BCP”) has invited Nevada ratepayers to share their views on the following topics via an online consumer survey:

1. Data Centers
2. Affordability and Reliability
3. New Power Generation Projects
4. The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (“PUCN”)

“By taking this survey, Nevadans can help my office understand the concerns and worries they face in our state,” said Attorney General Ford. “My Bureau of Consumer Protection works tirelessly to ensure that Nevadans are protected from bad actors, and information that we receive from the residents of our state is vital for that work.”

The BCP is conducting this survey in lieu of a consumer session regarding NV Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan (“IRP”) in Docket No. 26-05007. This initiative follows the PUCN’s determination that a post-filing consumer session held by the PUCN was not in the public interest. Accordingly, the BCP is soliciting public input regarding critical issues in the IRP, including data center impacts, customer affordability, grid reliability and new proposed generation projects.

The BCP advocates for residential and small business ratepayers and believes strongly in their right to be heard. This survey gives Nevada ratepayers an opportunity to share their perspectives with the BCP as the PUCN considers NV Energy’s IRP, which includes plans for massive data center-driven growth.

The PUCN is expected to issue its final decision in Docket No. 26-05007 by December 31, 2026.

Why participate in the survey?
This survey provides Nevada ratepayers with a platform to express their priorities and concerns regarding NV Energy’s long-term resource plan, which incorporates significant capacity growth driven by data center demand. The proposed plan, subject to approval by the PUCN, will directly impact future electric rates, grid reliability and the state’s progress towards its clean energy goals. Input from Nevadans helps regulators understand ratepayer priorities concerning large-load growth such as data centers, cost responsibility, resource selection, environmental impacts and public engagement and participation before the PUCN.

Who is the BCP?
The BCP, headed by the Consumer’s Advocate, advocates on behalf of residential and small business ratepayers in proceedings before the PUCN. The BCP’s primary role is to ensure reliable utility service at the lowest reasonable cost to ratepayers. The BCP’s team of experts and attorneys review cases submitted by Nevada regulated public utilities. It analyzes the position of the utility company, advocates for ratepayers and then presents its case to the PUCN for its consideration.
