Oil Prices Slide Below USD95

(MENAFN) Global energy markets retreated Monday as Middle East tensions showed signs of easing, driven by a series of statements from US President Donald Trump signaling a push to contain the conflict in Lebanon.

Brent crude futures, which had surged past $97 per barrel, pulled back to under $95, while West Texas Intermediate slid to $91.9 as of 1820GMT — a notable reversal reflecting shifting investor sentiment around regional stability.

On the ground, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization issued a pointed warning Monday via the US social media platform X, declaring that Tehran regards any crossing of what it described as red lines in Lebanon and Gaza as a direct war and an attempt to impose costs on Iran's national security and the so-called resistance axis.

President Trump said he was "going to ask" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "what's going on with Lebanon." He further declared that "all shooting" between Israel and Hezbollah would be halted following a round of phone calls with both parties, adding, "There will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back."

Simultaneously, Iran escalated its diplomatic pushback — suspending indirect exchanges and text-sharing with Washington through third-party mediators to protest ongoing Israeli strikes in Lebanon, according to a semi-official news agency.

In response, Trump said he would welcome a period of silence if Iran suspends indirect peace talks with Washington — a statement that appeared to reframe the diplomatic freeze as an acceptable, even desirable, pause rather than a setback.
