Iranian Attack Forces Shutdown of Haifa Oil Refinery
(MENAFN) Operations at the Bazan Group’s oil processing plant located in Haifa Bay were completely halted following a missile attack by Iran overnight, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals and caused extensive harm to the facility's electrical systems, the company announced on Monday.
According to a formal statement issued by Bazan Group to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, and as reported by a news outlet, “As a result of damage to the facilities, the power plant was significantly damaged, and therefore all of the refinery’s and subsidiary companies’ facilities were shut down.”
The organization confirmed it is currently coordinating with the Israel Electric Corporation to recover power to the damaged site.
The missile attack by Iran targeted the Bazan oil processing center late Sunday, reportedly destroying essential infrastructure such as pipelines and energy transmission routes.
This information was relayed by the news outlet referencing a public update from the refinery’s operator, Bazan Group.
While certain refining activities reportedly persisted, other operations across affiliated facilities came to a stop due to the extent of the damage sustained.
The attack came amid a sharp rise in regional hostilities, which intensified starting Friday after Israel carried out synchronized aerial offensives on various Iranian locations, including strategic military and atomic sites.
In response, Tehran initiated its own wave of missile strikes.
Israeli officials have confirmed that Iranian missile barrages since Friday have resulted in at least 24 fatalities and left hundreds more wounded.
Conversely, Iranian authorities have claimed that the Israeli attacks have led to the deaths of at least 224 people and have injured over 1,000 individuals.
