TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Gryba family research company, DPM Mining Inc. is pleased to announce that a key Canadian invention has been issued which allows creation of a new underground mining method that eliminates ore dilution, increases productivity 300% with improved safety. Australian, Mexico, US and other mining country patents have already been issued. Test mining at the Penoles Madero Mine confirmed the technology.

In essence, the Gryba invention coverts mining an orebody from a series of traditional stopes and pillars to a set of SMART spreadsheets. Zero base cost mining and milling a single 1,000 ton SMART cell, then the geological 3D block modelling program quickly calculates the NPV for the life of the mine. Enter new exploration, cost or production data, rerun the model, update management daily or monthly.

History: Canadian Mining Engineer Charles M. Gryba P.Eng. patented the DPM mining method in 1990. The current Canadian Patent explains how to install a continuous, steel reinforced concrete roof on top of concrete posts. The concrete roof ties together 10 DPM innovations developed over the past 30 years thus creating a modern SMART spreadsheet mining method.

The simplest way to explain SMART is to visualize an orebody as a multilevel underground car parkade. The volume of ore between any 4 posts is a cell in a SMART spreadsheet, linking the spreadsheets together mines the entire orebody.

The original idea for SMART started with a 1983 Kidd Creek mine tour observation that the bottom of 30m wide, cemented rock filled (CRF) blasthole stope only arched 1 meter when mined out from below. Gryba with 50,000 hours of mine engineering, budgeting, operating and Noranda Research Centre experience was intrigued. Gryba had developed a strong belief that the industry must invent new mining methods to solve traditional mining problems.

The North American gold standard, “bulk mining method” since 1980 is VCR – blasthole stoping patented in the early 1970’s by CIL with Inco’s help. Block caving is 100 years old. Other traditional methods like cut and fill, room and pillar or shrinkage stoping, were invented by the Romans 2,000 years ago. None of the current mining methods are a good platform for mining innovation. NA mine development and stoping productivity has dropped 3% per year for the past 15 years – CEMI data.

Mining methods in 2021 are still plagued with high dilution, ongoing safety issues from rock falls, declining productivity and increasing costs. Kriged ore grade calculations, combined with complex planning and scheduling software, all add to the opaque nature of underground mining. SMART simplifies mining to a set of linked spreadsheets mined from the top down in 6m lifts, less development work plus quicker production reduces mining risks. As with any invention a few new terms are required.

Image 1 shows a top cut (drift and fill mining), cell size, CRF, and double posting. The red and white colored drifts install the red precast concrete posts and pours the top concrete roof of the parkade. For hard ore, conventional mining equipment is used to excavate 15m wide x any length panels under the concrete roof. Roadheaders are used to mine soft ore. Filled primary panels act as temporary pillars allowing secondary panels to be mined. This gives 100% ore recovery in 1 pass of mining with individual SMART cells having 0% backfill plus close to 0% wall rock dilution.

Image 2 shows an underground car parkade with ramp access. The 1st lift post holes were drilled on a 7.5m x 7.5m grid to match the corners of the SMART cells as per the 3D geological block model. Once a 15m wide panel of ore is mined, a backfill cycle installs a new grid of posts, a concrete floor then CRF. Compression pads bolted to the bottom flange of all red posts allows the CRF and concrete roof to move when ore is mined from below. The critical problem was how to design the overall parkade to support 800 tons of the CRF per SMART cell vs the weight of 4 cars. The load on any red post could be as high as 3200t when it is the common corner post of 4 cells.

The post loading question was solved by Golder FLAC 3D computer mining an 8 cell x 8 cell x 5 lift orebody, round by round, using 10 types or strengths of backfill. A stiff, civil designed parkade failed at the post roof connection. Weak CRF or paste fill caused the roof to sag to far thus overloading the posts. Success – equip red posts with compression pads and use jammed 500Mpa CRF. Post loading reduces from 250tons to 150 tons as you mine down 3 lifts using standard 6% cement CRF. Heaviest post loading was always on the 1st SMART lift and post loads steady state by the 3rd lift.

A $5 million dollar test program was completed at the Penoles Madero Mine in Mexico to mine prove the SMART technology engineering design. Test mining a 15m wide panel was successful. Image 3 visually shows that the roof and posts stayed intact.

Test mining proved the overall SMART spreadsheet, as each cell is the same. SMART enhances just about every aspect of underground planning, economics, mining research and safety. The standardized SMART cell technology is directly transferable from mine to mine and is scalable from 1,000 to 15,000tpd @ 0% dilution. Concrete roofs monitored via load cells creates a safe work environment and allows modern innovations such as mechanical or remote mining, robotics etc. to be safely implemented.

Rather than keeping the SMART technology confidential, 10 EIN press releases will be issued to explain SMART to both the mining and financial markets. Stakeholders include exploration and mine geologists, production miners, retail investors, bankers, fund managers, mining analysts, mine operators, company directors, mine ministers and politicians. Maryland Energy Administration Awards $3.3 Million for Energy Efficiency & Resiliency Projects that Avoid Power Outages

BALTIMORE, MD, UNITED STATES, March 31, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) announced $3.3 million in grant funding for fiscal year (FY) 2021 Combined Heat and Power (CHP) grants enabling eight Maryland organizations to maximize energy efficiency, decrease carbon emissions and maintain services during a power outage. CHP systems combine technologies to efficiently reduce energy waste and offer cleaner, more resilient energy. The CHP grant is funded by the Strategic Energy Investment Fund.

“Powering Maryland’s clean energy future is an essential collaboration between the public and private sectors,” said Dr. Mary Beth Tung, MEA Director. “This round of new CHP awards builds on our previous successes and ensures that Maryland businesses and critical infrastructure are able to run more efficiently and provide services, even during a blackout.”

Becton-Dickinson and Company is a medical technology company that earlier this year announced an antigen test that helps to detect the COVID-19 virus. Located in Cockeysville, the company will use their $650,000 award to enhance operation sustainability and diminish power outages. This new 2,000 kW CHP system will satisfy nearly half of annual electricity consumption needs, plus produce necessary hot water and steam. The system will also serve critical facility equipment during power outages, enabling production to continue at 50% capacity even in a blackout.

ITility, a Veteran-Owned Disabled Small Business specializing in a variety of services, including renewable energy system development, received a $120,000 award for an innovative project fueled by 100% clean and renewable energy derived by onsite-produced biogas. Partnering with Elceed Farm in Somerset County, ITility will design and install a 27 kW renewable natural gas (RNG) system. The RNG will be produced in an onsite anaerobic digester that utilizes the farm’s chicken manure, allowing for increased nutrient management that helps improve water quality in the Chesapeake Bay. The CHP system will provide the farm with approximately 75% of its annual electricity, and the thermal energy will be used to help the anaerobic digester optimally operate. This project could be replicated at farms across the state.

The Bethesda North Marriott & Conference Center, located in Rockville, requires continuous access to reliable, affordable electricity and heat energy in order to ensure the satisfaction of guests and attendees. To enhance the cost-effectiveness and resilience of their operations, the property received a $363,000 FY21 MEA CHP award for the installation of a 550 kW system. It will produce electricity to satisfy approximately 60% of annual consumption needs, and the heat output will be used to enhance the efficiency of hot water production.

The Housing Authority of Baltimore City will use their $108,000 award to reduce energy costs for low-to-moderate income residents at Douglass Home, a multifamily housing community in east Baltimore, with a 180 kW CHP system that will meet approximately 75% of the building’s annual electricity needs. The system is projected to operate at an exceptionally high efficiency of 81% and will reduce electricity bills for residents.

CHP is ideal for critical infrastructure facilities like hospitals, wastewater treatment plants, and critical manufacturers. CHP systems can also be implemented by businesses, multifamily housing facilities, and other industries where continuous access to reliable electricity and heat are needed. The TOKA Flex, Gecko’s most advanced robot, was purposely designed to crawl on small diameter piping at dizzying heights. Independent suspension and drive axles:

The TOKA Flex can dynamically adapt from flat surfaces to pipes down to 6” in diameter. This is made possible by an independent steering, suspension, and electronic drive for each of the four (4) permanent magnetic wheels. This allows the robot to do some amazing things like navigating elbows, overcoming ⅜” obstacles, and even executing 180° turns. Aided by an onboard driving camera, the maneuverability of the robot guarantees the best positioning to capture accurate data.

Multi-probe data collection and coverage:

Continuing the tradition of our Rapid Ultrasonic Gridding (RUG) inspection technique, the TOKA Flex houses 12 single-channel ultrasonic probes at 1” spacing collecting A-scan, B-scan, and C-scan data. The payload combines with a fast drive system to cover over 30 sq. ft per minute. The data is processed in our cloud, reviewed by our NDE/NDT experts, and delivered interactively via Gecko Portal®, the same unified interface across the entire family of Gecko solutions. Advanced modifications of the TOKA Flex allow for even greater data-collection density offering 18 probes at ¼” spacing.

Heat-hardened sensors and electronics:

A major shift in reliability programs is the desire to inspect equipment while it’s on-line. In this regime, process piping is often under pressure and at elevated temperatures. TOKA Flex has been hardened to withstand temperatures up to 275°F. From the contact points on the pipe to the heat transfer within the robot itself, the robot is built to perform without degradation in data collection capability.

Inspecting elbows, bends, and joints:

Not only are elbows, bends, and joints tedious to inspect, they also represent places that due to flow changes, are susceptible to deposits and corrosion. Gecko’s mantra is More Coverage; More Confidence. With that in mind, Gecko is committed to covering as many of these difficult areas as possible. For elbows, the TOKA Flex can completely inspect swept elbows on 10” diameter piping and the outer half of elbows, extrados, with >20” curvature. Should there be an insurmountable obstacle, the robot can be deployed from another entry point up and climb/crawl for up to 75’ from our operators.

Hydrofuel will also be licencing ammonia and hydrogen energy technologies from multiple institutions and companies to provide complete start to finish or beginning to end clean energy solutions. All of Hydrofuel's technologies, products and services will be marketed globally using the Hydrofuel® trademarks registered in Canada, the USA and EU.

Ammonia (NH3) molecules contain one part nitrogen, and three parts hydrogen. NH3 is an extremely promising environmentally friendly fuel source because it contains absolutely no carbon, contains 1.5 times the hydrogen than liquid hydrogen (H2), and substantially reduces global GHG emissions.

Hydrofuel has previously invested $50,000 with matching Mitacs funding for six research projects with Dr. Ibrahim Dincer of Ontario Tech University, which have covered many aspects of the production and use of ammonia fuel and energy.

Currently a three part "Sectoral use of ammonia as a clean solution" project is well underway.

In the first subproject, an ammonia-fueled a power generator will be developed and experimentally tested.

The second subproject of the project is to investigate the ammonia economy starting from production to last use in various sectors. Evaluating a microgrid system and compatible electrical vehicle, and their economic benefits, advantages or disadvantages will be researched extensively.

In the third subproject, a review of ammonia economy with a cradle-to-grave approach will be conducted, results of this research will be used in life cycle assessment analysis to define goals and scope, inventory data and possible impacts to the environment. Life cycle assessment will be done for all dimensions and domains of ammonia.

Ontario Tech University Professor Dincer and Hydrofuel’s previous NH3 energy research findings "New evidence on greener energy solutions" indicate green ammonia is the best alternative to fossil fuels in an extensive range of applications, and even better than most other renewables on several parameters:

• NH3 helps reduce life-cycle costs and emissions in numerous transportation applications by more than 50 per cent.
• As a carbon-free fuel, fertilizer, refrigerant, working fluid and hydrogen storage media, NH3 is a uniquely broad green solution to global energy and environmental challenges.
• NH3 is the most environmentally benign transportation fuel compared with gasoline, gaseous or liquid hydrogen, liquefied petroleum gas, diesel, compressed natural gas, electric (where electricity is created from fossil-fuel driven plants*) and hybrid electric vehicles.
*Electricity production in a diesel co-generation plant emits more than twice the amount of greenhouse gas when compared to an equal energy quantity of NH3.

Hydrofuel previously announced a three year commercial demonstration project with Toronto based TFX International Auto Transport to convert diesel generators and transport trucks to run on multi-fuels including ammonia using Hydrofuel's Ammonia Solutions© aftermarket technology.

Hydrofuel will be announcing several ammonia energy technology acquisition, option, licence and collaboration agreements in Canada, the USA and overseas in the upcoming weeks and months, with commercial sales expected to commence as soon as in 24 months.
